Core Grammar for LawyersSM (CGL) is an online, self-directed learning tool designed to help law students, pre-law students, paralegal professionals, and practicing attorneys acquire the grammar and punctuation skills that are prerequisites to successful legal writing.
CGL includes all of the following:
- a Pre-Test of general and law-specific grammar skills;
- Lessons on each tested topic;
- interactive Exercises following each Lesson;
- an opportunity to continue reviewing Exercises after completing the program;
- an Index of Grammar Rules and a robust Glossary for student reference; and
- Post-Tests to confirm mastery.
Studies by education professionals show that the best way to learn grammar is through one-on-one instruction with immediate feedback. CGL has created a user-friendly online experience that reflects this type of learning experience. CGL's Lessons and interactive Exercises simulate real-world writing in the context of the legal profession and provide immediate feedback to students.
A team of educational testing specialists calibrated CGL's hundreds of multiple-choice questions, which were taken by over 4,500 students participating in the CGL Trial Test. Students and teachers can rely with confidence on CGL's Pre-Test and Post-Tests as valid assessment tools of the grammar skills taught by CGL.
CGL includes a Teacher's Manual with information for faculty and an optional online learning management system (LMS) to help professors track their students' progress (if they are interested in doing so). And, CGL is accessible to students with disabilities.
